I'm not surprised this book won the 2003 Pulitzer prize for fiction. It's a book that may not be for everyone considering it's content. There's incest, a bit of homosexuality, racism, war, politics, religion, sex, and small bits of drug abuse. The protagonist is born a girl, or so everyone thinks, including the protagonist herself. This is an epic tale spanning three generations of a Greek family, starting in Turkey and Greece and ending in Detroit. Family secrets are present in abundance, some secrets kept, some secrets revealed. Though many of the major characters do some things many will find quite dispicable, the author nevertheless succeeds in making them likeable for the most part. I highly recommend this book.

You can't live in Wisconsin and not have Aldo Leopold on your bookshelf.

I have this book as an advanced reader's copy (an advantage when whit was working for a bookstore!) and haven't gotten to it until now. It was interesting although it skipped back and forth from present to past alot. I would like to read more by this author.
